Legal Status and Objectives
Merton Plus is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission (Registered Charity Number 1219245).
Under our Constitution, the objectives of Merton Plus are:
- For the public benefit, to promote equality and diversity in the London Borough of Merton and the surrounding boroughs and in particular the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity by:
- Raising the awareness of the public with regard to all aspects of discrimination in society and issues and difficulties affecting the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people plus those of other sexual orientations, gender identities or expression and sex characteristics (LGBTQIA+);
- Organising events throughout the year, including Merton Pride and other social events in a safe environment designed to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds;
- Cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity by raising awareness and sharing knowledge with the wider public.
- For the public benefit, to preserve and protect the health of those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people plus those of other sexual orientations, gender identities or expression and sex characteristics (LGBTQIA+) by providing advice and guidance on health issues that may impact them and signposting to relevant services as required.
